After a week of freezing temperatures, snow and ice a warm front is ensuring the start of winter is warmer than the end of autumn.

Across the UK today and tomorrow will see grey skies as temperatures rise to as high as 10C in Cornwall.

Aidan McGivern, from the Met Office, said: ‘The arctic winds peaked on Thursday ironically enough as it was the last day of autumn.

‘Saturday will be a grey day with low cloud in the west and north.’

‘The warm front is going to bring a little bit of rain and drizzle, and it will be rain and drizzle and not snow, apart from the tops of the hills in Scotland – and increasing amounts of cloud as well.

‘It will really bring a bit of a change, so a calmer outlook, more settled, bit of cloud around, and that is really the same through the weekend.’
