Family left homeless after fleeing home when 2ft long rats invaded

A family were forced to leave their home after it was invaded by rodents.

John Rising, 36, his partner Joanne and his three sons, made the decision to leave their property in Folly Lane, St Pauls, Cheltenham, because they felt it had become a health risk.

Mr Rising told Gloucester Live: About a month ago, before the rats completely took over the house, my 14-year-old son was in the bathroom and saw one actually in the toilet.

He called me and I rushed to have a look. I could see the rats tail and bum swimming back out of toilet, back up the u-bend.

John Rising claimed to have seen rats that were 2ft long

Mr Rising described the rats as being 2ft long and said one had stared him directly in the face after he caught it under the kitchen sink.

The rodent managed to get away on that occasion.

Mr Rising blamed Cheltenham Borough Homes for his current predicament and accused them of choosing a short term remedy rather than following the advice of pest controllers.

He said they had decided to block up holes in his house instead of looking at the source of the problem, which meant digging up gardens to find out where the rats were coming from.

Mr Rising was also unhappy with Cheltenham Borough Homes because they had not offered him temporary accommodation while the problem was being sorted.

He said he had no other option than to move to his fathers house because it was only a matter of time before the rats had the run of the house.
