A boy whose severe skin condition left him in so much pain that his mum feared he was giving up on life says he feels a lot better after thousands of well-wishers sent him birthday cards.

Rhys Williams, 14, suffers from epidermolysis bullosa, which causes painful blisters and sores and has also made his fingers fuse together.

Earlier this month his mother, Tanya, asked strangers if they could help cheer him up by sending birthday messages to show the youngster hes not alone – and the response has been incredible.

Hes had hundreds upon hundreds of presents. Just a card would have made his day, you know, she told BBCs Victoria Derbyshire programme.

But the people who sent presents have just made his day even more.
