Meet Meghan Markle’s dog Bogart – the rescue pup she has left behind in Canada

Meghan Markle has devastatingly been forced to leave her adorable pet pup Bogart behind in Canada now she is living in London.

Meghan and Prince Harry announced they are engaged to be married on Monday 27 November.

The happy couple will be living in Nottingham Cottage in the grounds of Kensington Palace.

But Meghan’s move from Toronto, Canada to London, England, means she has had to say goodbye to Bogart.

A Labrador-shepherd mix, Bogart was Meghan’s first pet who she rescued from a shelter.

The gorgeous pup will now live with friends in Canada, Jason Knauf, Prince Harry’s communications secretary, confirmed this week.

He said in a statement: ‘Bogart is now living with very good friends and Guy is now in the UK. Bogart is not coming.’

It is understood Bogart was too old to make the seven-and-a-half hour journey from Toronto to London.

Meghan’s second dog – a Beagle called Guy – has been flown across to the UK, however.

It is not known if he is with Meghan in Nottingham Cottage yet, or, indeed, if he will be joining her and Harry there at all.

Speaking in her and Harry’s first-ever interview to the BBC’s Mishal Husain, Meghan confirmed she had to leave behind one of her dogs.

She said: ‘I have two dogs that I’ve had for quite a long time, both my rescue pups.

‘And one is now staying with very close friends and my other little guy is, yes he’s in the UK, he’s been here for a while.

‘I think he’s doing just fine.’

Bogart and Guy have been firm features on Meghan’s Instagram account for years.

The pair are best friends

What Bogart does, Guy does.

The sunbathe together.

And chill together.

They even sleep together.

They’re the cool kids in their friendship group.

Meghan often used the hashtag #adoptadog with her pet posts, encouraging her followers to do what she did and give a dog a home.

Prince Harry joked during their interview how the Queen’s Corgis had taken quite a shine to Meghan – while they still bark at him despite knowing him for 33 years.

‘And the corgis took to you straight away. I’ve spent the last 33 years being barked at; this one walks in, absolutely nothing…,’ he revealed.

Meghan added: ‘Just laying on my feet during tea, it was very sweet.’
